The Poro Point Freeport Zone in La Union is a prime location for investments and tourism in North Luzon with its airport, seaport and tourism facilities.
The Poro Point Freeport Zone (PPFZ) in San Fernando, La Union is home to the 65-hectare Mediterranean-inspired luxury resort called Thunderbird Resorts that offers exquisite resort facilities and amenities for a relaxed and pampered getaway. Formerly known as the US Wallace Air Station, the 236.5-hectare Poro Point is accessible via the San Fernando airport and the seamless NLEX-SCTEX-TPLEX link from Manila. The Poro Point seaport promotes trade in and around the region.
Managed by BCDA subsidiary Poro Point Management Corporation (PPMC), the zone boasts of its very own lighthouse which is considered as one of the oldest functioning lighthouses in the country. The lighthouse serves as the inspiration for PPMC’s “Beacon of the North” program that aims to position La Union as the main catalyst for the socioeconomic development of Northern Luzon. The Sillag Poro Point Festival of Lights was launched on April 28, 2012 to promote La Union as a major tourism destination in the north.
